Panel Says Embattled Fla. Judge Should Be Tossed Off Bench
Law360, Miami (April 16, 2014, 5:33 PM EDT) -- A hearing panel for Florida's Judicial Qualifications Committee on Tuesday recommended that Judge Laura Watson, who was investigated over her involvement as an attorney in a $14.5 million settlement with an insurer, be removed from the bench.
In a 41-page report, Judge Kerry Evander, who chairs the JQC hearing panel, said the panel could not get past Judge Watson's “serious, egregious” ethical violations of the Florida Rules of Professional Conduct and said she should be removed from her position as a judge in the Seventeenth Judicial Circuit Court in Broward County.
