NY Firm Newman Myers Denied Sandy Coverage

Law360, New York (April 28, 2014, 4:19 PM EDT) -- A New York federal court held Thursday that Great Northern Insurance Co. did not have to cover defense litigation firm Newman Myers Kreines Gross & Harris PC's losses from a dayslong shutdown of its office because of Superstorm Sandy, ruling there was no “direct physical loss.”

Newman Myers — a law firm that itself represents insurers — was unable to persuade the court that Great Northern owed coverage for business losses that that the firm suffered when Con Edison cut off electricity to its building ahead of the massive October 2012 storm and didn't restore it until five days later....
