Jury Finds Canon Violated Intellectual Ventures' Patents

Law360, Los Angeles (May 2, 2014, 9:26 PM EDT) -- A Delaware federal jury on Friday found that certain Canon Inc. and Canon USA Inc. digital camera products violated valid image-sensor patents owned by patent-licensing company Intellectual Ventures Management LLC in the first of two expected jury verdicts on possible patent infringement.

The jury held that Canon's EOS 1DS Mark III, EOS 5D Mark II and Vixia Camcorders infringe at least one claim of U.S. Patent Number 6,023,081, which Canon failed to invalidate for obviousness. A second trial against the company concerning two other Intellectual Ventures patents, which purport to cover graphical user interface technologies, is scheduled to begin on Monday...
