House Democrats Propose Drug Import Reforms

Law360, New York (April 18, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- U.S. House of Representatives Democrats are pushing proposals intended to boost the U.S. Food and Drug Administration's ability to monitor drug and medical device imports and ensure that U.S. consumers know where their medications are manufactured.

The draft legislation pushed by leaders of the House Energy and Commerce Committee Thursday includes provisions that would require country-of-origin labeling on prescription drugs. Medical devices would also have to indicate their country of manufacture.
