Chevron Sets Sights On Donziger Litigation Consultant
By Andrew Scurria (May 12, 2014, 9:05 PM EDT) -- Chevron Corp. filed a petition in New York federal court Friday demanding legal consulting firm H5's cooperation in international litigation over a discredited $9.5 billion Ecuadorian pollution judgment, targeting its alleged role in bankrolling the underlying plaintiffs' attorneys and whitewashing their fraud.
The petition under Section 1782 of the U.S. Code seeks discovery from H5 for use in Chevron's defense against current and future attempts in foreign countries to enforce the allegedly fraudulent Ecuadorian court judgment and in a conspiracy suit the oil giant is pursuing in Gibraltar against litigation financier and online poker magnate James Russell DeLeon.
