High Court Rejects Another Exxon Damages Case

Law360, New York (April 21, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- The U.S. Supreme Court has refused to hear a second challenge by Exxon Mobil Corp. to a $112 million punitive damages award in an environmental cleanup lawsuit, a year after returning the case to a Louisiana court for reconsideration.

Absent Justice Samuel Alito, who owns shares in the oil giant, the high court on Monday denied Exxon's petition for a rehearing, letting stand the state supreme court's decision to uphold the award on review.
