Calif. Counties Claim Pharma Cos. Lied About Opioid Safety

Law360, Los Angeles (May 22, 2014, 8:26 PM EDT) -- The Orange County, California, district attorney and the Santa Clara County attorney hit Purdue Pharma LP, Cephalon Inc. and other drug companies with a false advertising lawsuit in California court on Wednesday, saying they misrepresented the “dangerously addictive nature” of opioids.

Prescription opioids comprise a class of narcotic prescription painkillers, including brand-name drugs like OxyContin and Percocet, that are derived from opium and have similar effects on users as heroin.
