Weyerhaeuser Plans Appeal Of $28M Jury Award

Law360 (April 29, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Weyerhaeuser Co. said Monday that it expects a $28 million jury verdict in a class action that accused the company of monopolizing the market for finished alder lumber will be overturned on appeal, but plaintiffs counsel expects the verdict to withstand appellate scrutiny.

But the $27.98 million award, issued Monday after a two-week trial in the U.S. District Court for the District of Oregon, will be trebled, a spokesman for Federal Way, Wash.-based Weyerhaeuser said Tuesday.
