Judge Awards Realtor $1.7 M For Age Discrimination

Law360, New York (May 2, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- A federal judge has awarded $1.7 million to a former Chicago real estate professional who said her boss demoted and later fired her because of her age.

Helen Gardner accused Illinois Preferred Real Estate LLC, where she worked as a branch manager, of violating the Age Discrimination in Employment Act after she was demoted at age 67 despite good results in four years as a branch manager and replaced by a younger, less qualified male in 2004.
