Sanofi-Aventis Slaps Ranbaxy With Allegra Patent Suit

Law360, New York (March 1, 2006, 12:00 AM EST) -- Sanofi-Aventis’ battle with generic drug makers over its popular allergy medicine Allegra is raging on, with the French pharmaceutical giant slapping generic manufacturer Ranbaxy with a patent infringement lawsuit.

Sanofi-Aventis S.A., Aventis Inc. and Carderm Capital L.P. filed a complaint in the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey accusing Indian generic drug producer Ranbaxy Laboratories Limited and Ranbaxy Pharmaceuticals Inc. of infringing on a handful of patents regarding fexofenadine ANDA tablets—a generic version of Sanofi-Aventis’ Allegra.
