Teva Sues To Invalidate Nexium Patents

Law360, New York (May 7, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Israeli generics maker Teva Pharmaceutical Industries Inc. has sued AstraZeneca Plc for a declaratory judgment that several of AstraZeneca's patents related to its popular anti-ulcer drug Nexium are invalid.

"AstraZeneca is confident in the strength of its patent protection regarding Nexium and will vigorously protect its intellectual property," said Astrazeneca representative Blair Hains on Wednesday.

In November 2005, AstraZeneca sued Teva and other generics makers, including Ranbaxy Pharmaceuticals Inc. and Ivax Corp., for allegedly planning to infringe several patents related to Nexium.
