Inflation May Spark EU Probe Of Retail Sector

Law360, New York (May 14, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Sky-high inflation rates in the European Union have prompted regulators to consider an inquiry into competition in the retail sector to focus on whether anti-competitive behavior could be causing the high prices.

EU Economic and Monetary Affairs Commissioner Joaquin Almunia said on Tuesday that regulators were “considering whether to open an internal market inquiry on how the retail sector is functioning,” according to AFX News.
