Wal-Mart To Suppliers: Crack Down On Tainted Toys

Law360, New York (May 14, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Shaken by recalls and product liability lawsuits, Wal-Mart Stores Inc. has reportedly given its suppliers new safety guidelines regarding toxic substances in toys and other products that could reshape the industry more efficiently than government regulations.

Wal-Mart's new standards on lead, mercury and other substances in its children's products are tougher than any current state or national standards, according to Wednesday's Wall Street Journal. The report was based on a February memo to suppliers that was obtained by the paper.
