NY Judge Bars Sale Of Whiskey Using Explorers Club TM

By Aaron Vehling (August 5, 2014, 4:20 PM EDT) -- A New York state judge on Monday permanently barred Diageo PLC from using the name of New York City's famed The Explorers Club on its special line of Johnnie Walker whiskey.

The storied club — which boasts Theodore Roosevelt and Charles Lindbergh as former members — sued Diageo early this year, saying the distiller was intentionally trying to associate with the club when it launched its "Johnnie Walker Explorers' Club Collection" in 2012.

Judge Charles E. Ramos agreed, saying in his Aug. 5 order granting the club its petition for a permanent injunction that Diageo's adoption of the club's name in connection...
