Payment Card Industry Council Tackles 3rd-Party Security

Law360, New York (August 8, 2014, 4:21 PM EDT) -- The payment card industry's self-regulatory body on Thursday issued new guidance for merchants that share cardholder data with third parties, recommending the establishment of a clear and robust data management plan to help combat the added security vulnerabilities.

In releasing the Third-Party Security Assurance Information Supplement, the Payment Card Industry Security Standards Council observed that merchants and other entities are increasingly turning to third-party service providers to store, process, and transmit cardholder data and to manage components of their systems such as routers, firewalls and databases.
