Mix-Up Leads To Acne Medication Recall

Law360, New York (May 19, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Specialty pharmaceutical firm Medicis Pharmaceutical Corp. has voluntarily recalled two lots of its antibiotic acne medication Solodyn after discovering that one bottle in the lots contained another drug, Azasan.

On Friday, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and Medicis announced the recall — which included two specific lots of 30-count bottles of 90-milligram extended release tablets of Solodyn.

Solodyn, also known as minocycline hydrochloride, and Azasan, or azathioprine, are both manufactured by AAIPharma Inc. Azasan is sold by Salix Pharmaceuticals Inc. and is prescribed for kidney-transplant...
