Degussa Loses Appeal Of $143M Cartel Fine

Law360, New York (May 22, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- The European Union's highest court has rejected Degussa AG's appeal of a $143 million fine it was issued in 2002 for allegedly fixing the price of an animal-feed ingredient.

On Thursday, the Luxembourg-based European Court of Justice upheld the $143 million fine imposed on the German chemical company by EU regulators for fixing the price of methionine, a chemical used to promote the growth of pigs and poultry.
