Bill Aims To Swap Visa Lottery For Worker Permits

Law360, New York (May 22, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- In a continued effort to make more employment visas available, a group of Republicans has put forward new legislation that would eliminate the visa lottery system and give those permits to foreigners with advanced degrees from U.S. universities.

The bill's supporters see the measure as a way to address two concerns at once — ending a random visa program that could present national security threats and allowing more of the world's most skilled employees to work in the United States.
