Milberg Fights Criminal Forfeiture In Kickback Case

Law360, New York (May 23, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Embattled class action firm Milberg LLP, which is facing trial in August on charges it paid illegal kickbacks to lead plaintiffs, is fighting efforts by prosecutors to recoup the proceeds of the alleged 20-year conspiracy.

In a pretrial motion to the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California, lawyers for the New York-based plaintiffs firm, formerly known as Milberg Weiss LLP, argued for a reduction of the $251 million criminal forfeiture sought by the federal government.
