Miami-Dade OKs Vote On Raising $393M For New Courthouse

Law360, Miami (September 3, 2014, 9:49 PM EDT) -- Miami-Dade County commissioners on Wednesday approved asking voters in November if they support the issuance of general obligation bonds to raise up to $393 million for construction of a new civil courthouse, including $25 million for emergency work to keep the current building open.

Built in 1928, the current courthouse at 73 West Flagler St. has fallen into obsolescence and decay, too small to accommodate the court system's current and future needs and presenting potentially dangerous conditions with leaking, flooding, mold, termites and weakening support columns, advocates say.
