Germany Straddles The Fence On Volkswagen Law

Law360, New York (May 27, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Seeking to comply with a European Court of Justice decision, the German Cabinet has approved certain changes to the controversial Volkswagen law but has fallen short of incorporating the European Commission's full list of demands.

On Tuesday, the country's governmental body signed off on the revisions but revealed that Volkswagen AG shareholder Lower Saxony would retain a veto right in the most recent version of the law, suggesting that Germany will do only the bare necessity to comply.
