U.S. Takes EU Tariff Dispute To WTO

Law360, New York (May 28, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- The U.S. has filed a complaint with the World Trade Organization over new import tariffs levied by the European Union on cable boxes, computer monitors and other new technologies, slamming the duties as “protectionist gimmicks.”

U.S. Trade Representative Susan C. Schwab has called for dispute settlement consultations with the EU to address U.S. concerns over the new taxes on products it claims are duty-free under the WTO's Information Technology Agreement.
