Businesses Detail Fallout From Lapsed Trade Preferences

Law360, New York (September 17, 2014, 5:40 PM EDT) -- A collection of import-reliant businesses has urged Congress to swiftly renew an expired program allowing the duty-free shipment of goods from nearly 130 countries into the U.S., claiming the lapse of trade preferences has sparked higher costs and lost sales.

The group circulated a report Monday laying out numerous examples of businesses of all sizes that have had to curtail their hiring and investment practices in the wake of the July 2013 expiration of Generalized System of Preferences program.
