Ex-Siemens Patent Atty Indicted Over $2.5M Kickbacks Fraud

By Michael Lipkin (October 16, 2014, 8:16 PM EDT) -- A former patent attorney for Siemens AG's Pennsylvania-based health care information technology unit was accused Thursday of defrauding an unnamed former employer by billing it for nearly $2.5 million in outside legal work he did himself and by taking a share of the profits.

Federal prosecutors say Alexander James Burke, 58, conspired against an unnamed Malvern, Pennsylvania-based company by assigning projects to an outside attorney for almost five years but doing the patent preparation and litigation work himself under salary.
