Metabolife CEO Gets 6 Months For Misleading FDA

Law360, New York (June 10, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- The co-founder and former chief executive of Metabolife International Inc. has been sentenced to six months in prison for allegedly making false statements to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration in an effort to obstruct regulation of his now-defunct company’s top-selling ephedra-containing drug.

On Monday, Judge Napoleon A. Jones Jr. of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of California sentenced Michael Ellis to six years in prison and three years of supervised release, tacking on an additional $20,000 fine.
