Jury Sides With Sprint On Early Termination Fees

Law360 (June 13, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- A county jury in California ruled Thursday that the fees Sprint Nextel charges customers who cancel their service before their contract expires do not offset the losses Sprint suffers when customers don't fulfill their contract.

The suit, filed in 2006, alleged that “early termination fees” ranging from $150 to $225 violated California’s Consumer Legal Remedies Act. The case had a certified class estimated at 2 million people who had Sprint service between 1999 and 2007.
