EPA Reveals Plan To Clean Navajo Land Of Uranium

Law360, New York (June 16, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- After repeated requests to ban uranium mining in Indian reservations, five federal agencies on Friday agreed to an initiative to clean up abandoned uranium mines on Navajo Nation land.

The Environmental Protection Energy, the Department of Energy, the Bureau of Indian Affairs, the Indian Health Service and the Nuclear Regulatory Commission finalized a five-year plan that details the strategy and time line for uranium mine cleanups.

It is the first coordinated approach to be created by the five agencies.
