Ceasefire Called In Electronic Check Patent Dispute

Law360, New York (April 3, 2006, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Ending an array of patent disputes, Canadian payment processor LML Payment Systems Inc. has reached a settlement with rivals First Data Corp., Electronic Clearing House Inc. and Nova Information Systems Inc. in the battle over systems that convert paper checks into electronic transactions.

LML Payment announced the settlements on Monday, marking the end of all pending litigation between the companies.

Under the agreement, LML has reached a licensing deal with both Electronic Clearing House Inc. (ECHO) and Nova Information Systems Inc. (NOVA) over the patents-in-suit....
