Hundreds Arrested In Mortgage Fraud Sweep

Law360, New York (June 20, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- More than 400 people have been implicated in a nationwide crackdown on mortgage fraud conducted by the U.S. Department of Justice and the FBI in the culmination of a wide-ranging investigation aimed at curbing fraud in the housing and credit markets.

Regulators charged 60 people with mortgage fraud in a series of arrests Thursday. The arrests bring the total number of defendants in mortgage-fraud-related cases to 406. Thus far, the DOJ has filed 144 mortgage fraud cases in more than 50 judicial districts.
