FAA Grounds Drone Privacy Safeguards

Law360, New York (December 2, 2014, 4:55 PM EST) -- The Federal Aviation Administration on Monday denied a petition from privacy advocate Electronic Privacy Information Center to initiate a public rulemaking process to address privacy issues posed by drones, saying threats to privacy and civil liberties were not immediate safety concerns.

In response to EPIC's petition, the FAA told the privacy watchdog that it wasn't going to solicit public comments on drone privacy issues but said it would take such issues into consideration in a separate rulemaking process addressing the civil operation of small unmanned aircraft in national airspace.
