Whitehall Jewelers Files For Chapter 11

Law360 (June 23, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Chicago-based Whitehall Jewelers Inc. filed for Chapter 11 protection on Monday, making it the latest in a string of national jewelry chains to face bankruptcy.

The company blamed the shaky economy for its financial problems and asked the court for permission to pursue a sale of the business.

Should a purchaser of all or a portion of Whitehall's assets not be found, the company said in court filings in the U.S. District Court for the District of Delaware that it would seek to liquidate its assets...
