Orthopedic Co. Brings Patent Suit Against Aussie Rival

Law360, New York (June 25, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- An Australian orthopedic device maker has hooked an Aussie competitor and its U.S. subsidiary into a patent infringement suit over hip replacement technology.

Advanced Surgical Design and Manufacture Ltd. lodged a suit in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of California on June 23, alleging Portland Orthopaedics Pty. Ltd. and Portland’s St. Clair, Mich.-based unit have violated two of its patents covering an acetabular component for a hip replacement assembly.
