9th Circ Holds Anti-Whaling Protester Group In Contempt
By Beth Winegarner (December 19, 2014, 8:35 PM EST) -- The Ninth Circuit on Friday held anti-whaling activist Paul Watson and his Sea Shepherd Conservation Society, which the court previously called pirates, in contempt for violating an injunction barring them from interfering with Japanese whale-hunting researchers.
The appeals panel found that although Watson and Sea Shepherd transferred the group's primary vessels, named after celebrities, to subsidiaries in other parts of the world, they were well aware the subsidiaries would continue to interfere with the Japanese Institute of Cetacean Research's work.
