EBay Told To Pay €38.6M In LVMH Knockoff Case

Law360, New York (June 30, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- A French court has ordered eBay Inc. to pay €38.6 million ($61 million) in damages to Louis Vuitton Moet Hennessy for allowing users to sell fake luxury goods, and the online auction company said it would immediately appeal.

The decision, handed down Monday, prohibits the sale of LVMH perfumes on eBay and affirms the luxury retailer's claims that the site had a heightened responsibility to prevent fraud.
