VA Official Pleads Guilty To Accepting Kickbacks

Law360, New York (July 1, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- A Veterans Affairs official pled guilty on Monday to accepting kickbacks from a supplier in exchange for contracts.

The DOJ's complaint alleged that Joel M. Gostolmelsky, former director of the Hines, Ill. VA Consolidated Mail Outpatient Pharmacy, received illegal bribes from an office supplies vendor between 1998 and 2005.

In return, Gostolmelsky gave the supplier contracts that should have been awarded through competitive bidding, according to the plea.
