Mittal Steel Alleges Gas Market Stranglehold

Law360, New York (April 12, 2006, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Mittal Steel USA Inc. and three of its subsidiaries have accused Connecticut-based industrial gas provider Praxair Inc. of using its dominant position in the market to coerce Mittal into long-term contracts.

Mittal’s complaint, filed in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Ohio, alleges that Praxair has a stranglehold on the local market for bulk sales of gases like hydrogen, nitrogen and oxygen, which are integral components in steel processing.
