Drugmakers To Appeal $114M Verdict In AWP Case

Law360, New York (July 2, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- GlaxoSmithKline and Novartis Pharmaceuticals Corp. vowed Wednesday to challenge a $114 million verdict handed down by an Alabama jury, which found the companies had defrauded the state as part of a long-running scam to inflate drug prices.

The pharmaceutical giants were among almost 80 drug manufacturers named in a lawsuit brought in January 2005 by Alabama Attorney General Troy King, who hailed Tuesday's verdict as the second major victory for the state in the litigation over average wholesale prices of drugs.
