Alcatel-Lucent, Microsoft Vie Over $1.5B Verdict

Law360, New York (July 7, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit heard oral arguments Monday in the patent infringement dispute between software rivals Alcatel-Lucent and Microsoft Corp.

Alcatel-Lucent seeks to restore a $1.5 billion verdict against Microsoft for infringement of two of its MP3 digital music patents, which was overturned by the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of California last August. The patents at issue cover the encoding and decoding of audio into the digital MP3 format.
