Alitalia Aid OK, On Certain Conditions: EU Court

Law360, New York (July 9, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- A European court backed a European Commission decision on Wednesday that allowed the beleaguered Italian airline Alitalia SpA to keep state aid granted in the 1990s, as long as it satisfies a number of conditions.

The European Court of First Instance found that in its second ruling on Italy's state aid grant of almost 3,000 billion Italian lire (about $2.4 billion or €1.5 billion), the European Commission had provided enough support for its demand that the airline fulfill a set of 10 requirements.
