Philips Wins Partial Victory In Universal-Remote Case

Law360, New York (April 19, 2006, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Philips Electronics won a partial victory Wednesday at the Federal Circuit in a case revolving patents related to universal remote controls that allow consumers to program a single remote control to operate a variety of appliances.

Affirming a lower court’s decision, the Washington appeals court decided that the Federal Circuit agreed with Philips Electronics North America Corp. that Compo Micro Tech Inc. and Contec Corp. infringed on its patents related to universal remote controls for televisions, VCRs and DVD players.
