Air Berlin, Thomas Cook Call Off Condor Deal

Law360, New York (July 15, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- British tourism firm Thomas Cook Group Plc and Air Berlin Plc, Germany's second-largest airline, have called off Air Berlin's planned purchase of charter airline Condor Flugdienst GmbH from Thomas Cook.

On Friday, the companies withdrew their application to the German Federal Cartel Office for approval of the merger, Thomas Cook said in a statement. Thomas Cook spokeswoman Fiona Antcliffe attributed the decision to a 100% increase in fuel prices and other changing economic conditions since the merger was announced.
