D.C. Circ. Rejects FBI Informant’s Tort Suit

Law360, New York (July 15, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- A federal appeals court has blocked an injured FBI confidential informant from suing the U.S. government for allegedly failing to protect him following the arrest of a drug cartel leader.

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit affirmed the dismissal of Charles Shuler's suit on Tuesday, finding that his claim did not go far enough to waive the government’s sovereign immunity under a federal tort law.
