Asarco Wants Asbestos Claimants Committee

Law360, New York (July 21, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Bankrupt copper mining company Asarco LLC has asked the U.S. trustee in charge of its case to appoint a separate asbestos claimants committee to represent creditors with asbestos-specific claims in addition to the existing committee of unsecured creditors.

U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Richard Schmidt of the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of Texas agreed Monday to an expedited hearing on the matter, which will take place next week.
