Midwest Slashes Jobs To Stave Off Bankruptcy

Law360, New York (July 21, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Midwest Airlines has announced that it will lay off 1,200 employees — about 40% of its work force — and will retire a fleet of 12 planes as part of its ongoing effort to restructure.

A Midwest spokesman told the Business Journal of Milwaukee that the company is seeking to avoid bankruptcy, which it views as a “last resort,” but that it has not ruled out the possibility.
