Goodwin Procter Lays Off 38, Expects Litigation Slowdown

By Michael Lipkin (March 18, 2015, 9:53 PM EDT) -- Goodwin Procter LLP announced the layoffs of nearly 40 lawyers and staff on Wednesday, all in the firm's litigation department, as it said it expected a continued decline in litigation work for outside counsel.

Chairman David M. Hashmall and Managing Partner Robert S. Insolia sent a firmwide email disclosing that Goodwin would cut 14 associates, seven professional track attorneys and 17 staff members. They said that the demand for litigation had fallen, citing quicker resolution of cases and clients' increased dependence on in-house counsel.
