Union Pacific Settles Storrie Fire Suit For $102M

Law360, New York (July 22, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Union Pacific Railroad Co. will pay the U.S. government $102 million to settle a lawsuit over its alleged role in causing a forest fire in northern California in 2000 — the largest settlement over a forest fire in the history of the U.S. Forest Service.

Associate Attorney General Kevin O’Connor, Department of Agriculture Undersecretary Mark Rey and U.S. Attorney McGregor W. Scott of the Eastern District of California announced the settlement on Tuesday.
