FirstEnergy Faces 3 More Suits Over Plant Emissions

Law360 (July 24, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Three lawsuits — two of them purported class actions — have been filed against FirstEnergy Generation Corp. alleging that emissions from the company's plant in Shippingport, Pa., caused personal injury and property damage.

The lawsuits were filed Monday in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania, accusing the company of operating the Bruce Mansfield coal-fired power plant with inadequate pollution control systems that cause the constant emission of “white rain” and caused at least four episodes of “black rain” in 2006 and 2007....
