Roche Sues Ranbaxy Over Generic Antiviral Drug

Law360, New York (May 2, 2006, 12:00 AM EDT) -- California-based pharmaceutical company Roche Palo Alto LLC has filed a federal patent infringement lawsuit against Indian generics competitor Ranbaxy Laboratories Limited, in a move to protect the market for an antiviral drug.

The complaint, filed Friday in New Jersey’s District Court by Roche Palo Alto LLC, accuses Ranbaxy Laboratories Limited of infringing on a patent for valganciclovir hydrochloride, which is marketed by Roche as Valcyte.

Valcyte is an antiviral treatment, sometimes prescribed for an eye disease that takes root in AIDS patients.
