DietGoal Urges Fed. Circ. To Reinstate Meal Planning Patent

Law360, Washington (April 6, 2015, 3:48 PM EDT) -- A diet planning company asked a Federal Circuit panel to reinstate their patent suit against the Bravo TV channel, saying their meal planning patent had practical applications and it should not be considered unpatentably broad.

DietGoal Innovations LLC said their computer-based patent on a meal planning application had enough restrictions in its 60 claims for it to be considered valid and patentable, not an abstract idea. Company attorney Eric Buether claimed that Bravo Media LLC., which owns the cable channel, violated that patent.

"This is a practical application that avoids preemption of the abstract idea of meal planning," Buether said....
