Movie Studios' New Piracy Losses Questioned

Law360, New York (May 3, 2006, 12:00 AM EDT) -- A two-year study of global movie piracy, which included illegal Internet downloads for the first time, has revealed stunning financial losses for the U.S. movie industry, but some experts question the accuracy of the data that will be used as a “roadmap” to fight piracy worldwide.

The $3 million study, commissioned by the Motion Picture Association of America Inc. (MPAA), drew many surprising conclusions, chief among them a projected $6.1 billion loss incurred by U.S. movie studios in 2005 as a result of illegal piracy worldwide....
